This painting is part of a series called Breath Portraits. I sit in connection with my breath. I then pour ink on the paper and breathe it around the page. Working intuitively, connection to breath is at the heart of this work.
I made this one while at Marin Headlands Center for the Arts. I could see the Pacific Ocean from my studio and my awareness of that great body certainly influenced this piece.
The title comes from a Buddhist sutra I chanted almost every daily when I lived at Green Gulch Farm | Green Dragon Zen Temple (near San Francisco) on and off for four years.
The original painting is ink on paper, 12x12".
