ABOUT THE SERIES

My partner, Qayyum Johnson, and I have been honoring the moon cycle since the summer of 2019. Each new moon and full moon Qayyum writes a poem and I create a painting. Sometimes Qayyum writes the poem and I make a painting in response to that. Sometimes the other way around. Sometimes we both create from the inspiration of the moon. 
In this case, I made the painting and we matched it with a poem Qayyum had written previously, which you can read below.

Song to the Goddess of Awakening

In this moment

together — alone

embodied

in this space and light-filled body

awaken my appreciation

a wish for my life to lived

in service of the heartbreak passage

by which we aim to put a name on

all the world's beauties

as they crest bright and float away.
